and I thought I was going to hate it, but I actually kind of liked it.

I’m not a huge fan of awkward humor—I think it’s really difficult to pull off, and overused—and I thought I would be annoyed by the exaggerated indie-cutesy ball of quirk that is michael cera/charlene yi. Somehow, though, it worked; I don’t think I’d ever watch the movie again, but overall it was sweet and endearing. It doesn’t have mass appeal, but it’s also not so lo-fi and quirky that it becomes almost-pretentious. It kind of just exists, and is what it is. (This is not to say that there aren’t parts that are vomitously cutesy and annoying, but they were outweighed by the sheer sweetness and normalcy of most of the movie.)

I can see some people really hating this, and some really loving it, but most people probably will, like me, hover somewhere in between.
